18 Karat Gold Nib 750. And what do these numbers and symbols mean? Is the height of the Mont Blanc mountain (4,810 meters from sea level). In the six-pointed star circle is the Montblanc logo. The white star, of course, represents the snow-capped peak of Montblanc. This is the highest mountain in the Alps. This stylized star is a company logo you see all over. Is the gold content of the nib. Is the actual gold content of the nib. Is a Montblanc trade mark that was changed to StOD about 1997. There are a lot of Chinese fakes out there now, and Montblanc has innovative hallmarks to distinguish their authenticity and combat counterfeiting. The cap band has MONTBLANC - MEISTERSTÜCK No 149 in cross-hatched engraving. The top of the cap, of course, has the white star. On the upper cap band is the Serial Number and GERMANY. Pix® on the underside of the clip. The cap unscrews easily with about 1 ¾ rotations of the cap. It's a classic beautiful design. People notice when you take it out and slowly unscrew that cap! Writes wonderfully, as youd expect from such a superb nib.

The cap was placed on the back when writing, as should be done, so there are slight indications of that. The highly detailed photos were taken through a jewelers loup and magnifying glass, so please keep in mind that a spec of dust can look gigantic when you simply cannot see anything with your eye. For your interest I have included a brief history of the Montblanc company and the 149 pen below.

The company was founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 1906 by banker Alfred Nehemias and engineer August Eberstein. The name of the company was initially. Throughout prior history, and indeed up until 1959 when the Bic design made ball point pens affordable, a pen with an ink reservoir was the answer to dipping your quill or pen into a bottle of ink; which was slow, tedious, inefficient, and potentially very. The problem with the initial designs of fountain pens is that they did not have reliable reservoirs and would leak, the ink would dry out, and the reservoirs were small and needed constant refilling.

So Nehemias and Eberstein invented a pen with a system that would hold the ink without leaking, nor dry out, and it could hold enough ink for personal and business needs. The first real success was in 1909 with the Rouge et Noir (red and black) model with a red cap and black body. In 1910, the company became Montblanc, inspired by the highest peak of the Alps, indicating the most superior quality and craftsmanship. At first every Montblanc pen had a simple white tip, which evolved into the now classic white star. The first Montblanc to be branded a Meisterstück was produced in 1924.

By 1929, the nibs were warranted and engraved with 4810. The 149 model was launched in 1952, and was reintroduced with a two color / triple-tone 18K nib about 1995. Montblanc continues to create magnificent versions of the 149 in precious metals and gemstones. In case youre wondering what the 149 means =. 1: Tier of pen, 1 - Montblancs top class - Meisterstück. Montblanc is now exclusively a top class luxury brand as they stopped production of all economy pens in 1992.
